You need the following: (Use the same cup to measure all ingredients)
Akki Hittu/Rice Flour-2 cups
Putani Pudi/Hurgadle pudi/bhunahua chana dal powder/pottukadalai Podi-little less than 1/2 cup
Onakobbari Pudi/Dry grated coconut powder- 1/2 cup
Onamenasinakayi pudi/Red chilli powder-2 tsp
Bili ellu/White sesame seeds- 1tsp
Enne/Oil- 1/4 cup hot oil
Salt- as required.
Water for making dough
1. Mix all dry ingredients. Make a well in the center and add hot oil.
2. Mix oil and rest of the flour starting from the center and finally incorporating the whole flour.
3. Take a cup full of flour and little water to make a firm dough. Take a clean plate and add a drop of oil and rub the surface of the plate. Pull out little dough and roll it to make cigar sticks. Join the ends of the stick to make a circle.
4. Heat oil on medium flame. Deep fry all these circles/kodubales in hot oil till they turn golden brown.Drain on a paper towel. Enjoy them when they are at room temperature with your favorite hot drink.
DROOOOOLING!!! So yum. I use rice flour and hurigadale pudi to make Chaklis, Kodubales are nice idea too. Looks prefect for Winter here, mail me some!!:))

ReplyDeleteYou are making me drool here. My mom makes the best kodubale. Very similar to your recipe, but we use fresh coconut and add some chiroti rave too. I think I'll make some tomorrow.

ReplyDeleteYum yum.. aha! e winter nalli kodbale idre yestu sakkattu.. My mom and MIL both use the riceflour +hurigadalle pudi to make kodbale and chakkli... amma also makes maggige kodbale which tastes slightly different from the normal kodbale...cheers and happy eating..
ReplyDeleteAaha! Eshtu chennaagide..... One of my all time favorites.... Making ruled out for me, as basically I am lazy... If somebody makes them for me... I am happy..... But otherwise I often buy them or get to taste them when few of my aunts prepare....

ReplyDeleteEven I have not had success with Kodubales before; one way or the other they become soft inside. I will keep this recipe in mind.

I tried this, the taste was very good, but it kept breaking when I was rolling it. Could hardly roll it into a circle because it was breaking apart. Any idea what might be wrong? Too much putani pudi perhaps?
