  1. I found many of the recipes posted here to be authentic. I have a recipe to add - this is an age-old, traditional Melkote Iyengar recipe called tuni(meaning cloth) tengul.

    1 1/2 C Urad dhal
    1/4 C rice
    1 C confectioner's sugar
    1 1/2 tsp powdered cardamom
Oil or clarified butter for frying

    1. Soak Urad dhal & rice for 3 hours. Grind with little water to make a thick batter.
    2. Place the batter in a quart sized ziplock bag & close the zip after getting all the air out.
    3. At the corner left or right bottom, cut out a small hole of tengul thickness.
    4. Heat oil in a pan & squeeze the batter into the oil to the size & shape of gilebi.
    5. Fry to light golden brown, drain to paper towel & sprinkle with cardamom mixed confectioner's sugar. Serve & enjoy!
